Alcohol Awareness Month Proclaimed in Hamden

Curt Leng stopped by the SoHa Spring Kid's Festival Wednesday to present the proclamation promoting awareness to reduce underage drinking in Hamden.

 

At the SoHa Spring Kid’s Festival held Wednesday at the Keefe Center, Town of Hamden’s Chief Administrative Officer, Curt Balzano Leng presented the Hamden Youth Services Bureau/Hamden Youth Advisory Council (HYAC) with a Proclamation declaring April as Alcohol Awareness Month in Hamden.

The proclamation, presented on behalf of Mayor Scott Jackson, acknowledges HYAC’s recent efforts in promoting awareness to reduce underage drinking in Hamden through HYAC’s "Positive Choices" Campaign.

The Positive Choices Campaign is an initiative of the Hamden Youth Advisory Council (HYAC) to prevent underage drinking in Hamden and to encourage youth to make “Positive Choices” to live a lifestyle free from the influence of alcohol and drugs. HYAC is a collaboration of Hamden youth, parents, state and local agencies, and organizations whose mission is to foster opportunities for all Hamden youth and their families to learn and grow in positive ways.

As part of a statewide initiative, the Positive Choices Campaign is supported with technical assistance from the Youth Development Training and Resource Center at The Consultation Center, Inc. as an intermediary receiving funding from the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS) and assistance from The Governor’s Prevention Partnership.

Hamden Youth Advisory Council (HYAC) is calling all parents and the community at large to help address the various factors that contribute to underage drinking. All citizens, government agencies, public and private institutions and businesses are urged to invest in Hamden youth by supporting the Positive Choices Campaign to Prevent Underage Drinking in Hamden.
