Eight Warrants Equals Big Trouble for Town Man

An unrelated police call Sunday morning led to Belden Street man's arrest.

Police arrested a Hamden man Sunday morning who had eight outstanding warrants issued against him.

Officers noticed the man while they were investigating an unrelated threatening complaint on Newton Street about 11 a.m., police spokesman Capt. Ronald Smith said.

An officer noticed the man, identified as Daniel Ardito, 48, of 128 Belden Rd, walking nearby, Smith said, and when Ardito saw the officer, he took off toward Dixwell Avenue.

"Upon questioning the individual, who was later identified as Daniel Ardito, he fled on foot, running into the heavily traveled Dixwell Avenue," Smith said.
Off. Robert Villano chased and caught up with Ardito, who had in his pocket a knife, Smith said.

When doing a background check, the officer discovered the eight outstanding warrants, Smith said.

Ardito was charged with carrying a dangerous weapon and interfering with a police officer for Sunday's incident, Smith said. He was given a promise to appear in Meriden Superior Court on April 15 on those charges.

He also was charged with eight counts of failure to appear in court on the eight warrants, Smith said. Five of the warrants were from New Haven police, he said, while the others were from Meriden, Middletown and North Haven departments.

Ardito was held in lieu of $80,000 bond on the warrants, Smith said.
