Shenell Edmonds, a young actress from Hamden, has been nominated for the 44th NAACP Image Awards, it was recently announced.
The NAACP Image Awards celebrates the accomplishments of people of color in the fields of television, music, literature and film and also honors individuals or groups who promote social justice through creative endeavors. Winners will be announced during the two-hour star-studded event, which will air live on Friday, Feb. 1 at 8 p.m. on NBC.
Edmonds attended St. Aedan Parochial School and Cooperative Arts & Humanities High School, both in New Haven, before moving to New York City after landing a recurring role on “One Live to Live.”

Shenell worked on ABC’s “One Life to Live” from Jan. 2009 until the show ended in Jan. 2012.
This is Edmonds’ second nomination in less than two years. She was nominated for a 2011 Youngstars Award for Black Entertainment Television (BET), where she was referred to as “the burgeoning star is one of the fresh faces bringing new energy to the long-running soap opera One Life to Live.”
