Quest Diagnostic Closed after Odor Sickens Several

Workers laying a floor used a resin that had a pungent odor, fire officials said.

The odor from resin workers were using to lay a floor at Quest Diagnostics Tuesday morning was so pungent, it made several people sick and sent one to the hospital, according to fire officials.

The call came in at about 9 a.m., Hamden Fire Department Batallion Chief Don LaBanca said. They determined that the odor was coming from the resin the workers were using on a floor in the back of the building at 3000 Dixwell Ave., he said.

"It was a pungent odor that was making people sick," he said.

Most of those feeling ill declined treatment but one person went to the hospital as a precaution with pain and headaches, he said.

Quest will be closed for the rest of the day to ventilate the area because of the incident, LaBanca said, and while the work on the floor continues.
