James Armstrong, 68
James Armstrong, 68, of Hamden passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Beloved husband of 47 years of Judith Johnson Armstrong, he is also survived by daughters Jennifer Armstrong and her partner Susan Nugent, Jodi and her husband Eric Germain, and Joelle Armstrong, all of Hamden, and Julie and her husband Chad Cabana of Bonnyville, Alberta Canada; sons Jared Armstrong and his wife Amanda of Wallingford and Josh Armstrong and his wife Brenda of Hamden; brothers Richard and Robert Armstrong and sisters Marilyn Corp and Carolyn Schulze and grandchildren Aidan and Casey Armstrong, Chloe, Jeremy and Gabrielle Germain, Mason, Brandon, Cody and Ava Armstrong, Ceara and Caden Cabana, Jake and Ryan Armstrong. A son of the late Cecil and Dorothy Armstrong, James was born in Omemee, Ontario Canada on March 1, 1943. A Mason, he was also a hockey coach at Quinnipiac College and was a professional hockey player with the New Haven Blades, the Seattle Totems and various other teams. Pauline Jansin Brewer Clarke, 95, of 135 Putnam Ave., Hamden, died Jan. 11, 2012 at the Arden House. She was the widow of Arthur Clarke and Francis Brewer. Pauline was born in Woodbridge, Nov. 29, 1916, the daughter of the late Louis and Pauline Metty Jasmin and resided in Hamden most of her life. She was employed at Morgan Brush, Matlaws and was a home health aide, prior to retirement. She is survived by her children, Mrs. Salvatore (Joan) Ferraro, Mrs. Michael (Jane) Sarno and Nancy Vagnini, all of Hamden, Mrs. Thomas (Irene) Miller of West Haven, Mrs. Frank (Sandra) Laudano of East Haven, Lorraine Brewer of Pompano Beach,FL and David (Lorraine) Brewer of West Haven, mother in law of Leonard Sargolini, 21 Grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by children, Pauline Sargolini and James Brewer, siblings, Catherine Doolittle, Marceline Carlson, Jessie Church, Junner, Emil, Theodore and Frenchie Jasmin and Kenneth Baldwin, a son in law, Dino Vagnini and a grandson, Salvatore Ferraro Jr.  Memorial contributions may be made to Conn Hospice, 100 Double Beach Rd., Branford, Ct. or Arden House, 850 Mix Ave., Hamden, Ct. 06514.
Marie C. Corbett, 58, of Hamden, departed this life January 8, 2012. Born in Farmville, NC, December 18, 1953, she was the daughter of John A. Cox and the late Lucy Cox. Prior to retiring, Ms. Corbett was employed at Pratt & Whitney Aircraft as an Engineer. She was a member of Hamden AMF Bowling League. In addition to her father, she is survived by a son, Michael Corbett; brothers, William Earl and Roderick Cox; sisters, Cheryl and Tracy Cox; grandchildren, Michael Tyler Corbett and Tyrus Stevenson; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by a brother, Calvin Cox and a sister, Jacqueline Daniels.
Reverend Carlos C. Cordero, Jr., 76 of 95 Glenbrook Avenue, Hamden died Tuesday January 10, 2012 at the Hospital of St. Raphael after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Loorgia Garces Cordero. Rev. Cordero was born in Guayaquil, Equador on December 12, 1935, a son of the late Carlos A. and Rosaria Pacheco Cordero, and had resided in Hamden since 1987. He was a chaplain for the State of Connecticut for the past twenty four years. He previously was employed for Sikorsky Aircraft, Stratford for three years, and the former Bic. Co. of Milford for many years. Rev. Codero founded and ministered the Christ, the Only Hope for Man Ministry of Bridgeport. He is also survived by a daughter, Janet (Christopher) Upson of South Riding, VA, six sons, Alex (Blanca) Cordero of Guayaquil, John Cordero of Sanford, FL, Richard (Enith) Cordero of West Haven, Joshua Cordero of New Haven, Jeremy Cordero of Wallingford, and Josiah Cordero of Hamden, five sisters, Amada, Blanca and Delfina Cordero of Guayaquil, Alicia Moreano of Leavenworth, KS and Rosa Cordero of Arlington, TX, ten grandchildren, and a great granddaughter. He was predeceased by a sister, Mercedes Cepeda, and two brothers, Carlos E. Cordero, and Fernando Cordero.
Vincent "Ben" Decker, age 88, a Hamden resident of 60 years, passed away, Friday, January 20, 2012. Ben was born August 17, 1923 to the late George & Grace (Canavan) Decker in Poughkeepsie, NY. He proudly served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army, where he earned the Purple Heart. Ben retired from the New Haven Railroad after 44 yrs of dedicated service. He & his late wife, Evelyn, of 52 years were members of Olivet Baptist Church. Ben is survived by brother; George, as well as several nieces & nephews. He was predeceased by 3 brothers; Charles, Robert & LeRoy.
Joseph DeMato, age 94, of Hamden, passed away on January 11, 2012. Joe was the beloved husband of Mary Penkowsky DeMato. Born in New Haven on March 16, 1917 he was a son of the late Antonio and Margaret Melillo DeMato. He is survived by his sister, Pauline DeMato & sister-in-law Carmel DeMato, both of Hamden; devoted cousins, Ann Tripp of Hamden & Mary Pieper of Cheshire and friend Susan Cifarelli of North Haven. He was predeceased by his brother George DeMato. Joe retired from Textron (M & B) Inc, where he was a lab technician. He was a proud Veteran, serving in the Army during WWII. He was proud of his Good Conduct Medals, his European African Campaign Ribbons and his membership in the American Legion in Hamden. He was an avid fan of the UCONN Mens and Womens basketball teams and enjoyed bowling, baseball and gardening. Milton Hayles Beecher, 102

Milton Hayles Beecher, 102, died peacefully at home January 20, 2012. He is survived by his children, Barbara Stiles, Leslie Wilcox, Edward Beecher, and Viola Beecher as well as his grandchildren Jessica Wilcox, Robert Beecher, and Alice Beecher. A native of Hamden, Connecticut, Milton worked as a highway engineer for the State of Connecticut for over forty years. A gentle and loving family man, he enjoyed the company of his large extended family, who recently gathered from all over the country to celebrate his 100th birthday. He cared for his wife of 55 years, Alice, throughout her long battle with Alzheimer's disease, and spent the last 15 years of his life with his son Edward and his family in Hopkinton, Massachusetts. Donations may be made to Alzheimer's support groups or to the St. Joseph's Indian School, Chamberlain, SD 57326. Joan M. Testa Brown, 83

Joan M. Testa Brown, 83, formerly of Knob Hill Drive, Hamden died Friday January 27, 2012 at the Connecticut Hospice, Branford after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of Donald E. Brown. Mrs. Brown was born in West Haven on July 22, 1928, a daughter of the late Frank and Lena Como Testa. She had resided in Hamden for the past forty eight years, and previously in Northford for more than thirty years, and was a cashier at the former Caldor Department Store, Hamden for several years. Mrs. Brown is also survived by a daughter, Kathleen (Lawrence) Madow, and a son, Kevin D. Doris Ann Burton, 79

Doris Ann Burton, 79, of Hamden, departed this life January 30, 2012. Born in New Haven, CT, November 28, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Columbus and Anna Morse. Mrs. Burton was most recently employed at Griffin Hospital as a Certified Nurse's Assistant. She is survived by daughters, Cheryl Jackson (Charles) and Terryl Parrilla (Carlos); sons, Macceo Moss and Deark Lewis; a sister, Betty Gallentine; and a host of grandchildren; great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by daughters, Daine Burton and Beverly Williams; and a brother, Rev. Roger Skinner.

At his home, Cumpstone Dr., Hamden, January 8, 2012, Albert C. Cofrancesco, beloved husband of Margaret Cicarelli Cofrancesco and devoted father of Ernest A. Cofrancesco and his wife Monica of Durham, Rita Smith and her husband Kevin of Durham, Brenda Barth and her husband Jerry of Mass. and Joan Ranniger and her husband Brian of Utah, brother of Frank Cofrancesco of Hamden, Hugo Cofrancesco of New Haven, Matilda Sullo of New Haven and the late Genevieve Palmese, Eleanor Ragozzino, Theresa Vece, Anthony and Ernest Cofrancesco. He is also survived by 6 cherished grandchildren. Mr. Cofrancesco was born in New Haven, son of the late Frank and Pasqualina DiLella Cofrancesco of Italy. Joseph B. Cohen, DDS, 82

Joseph B. Cohen, DDS, 82, of Mix Ave., Hamden, and formerly of New Jersey, died at his home on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., Oct. 8, 1929, he was the son of the late Samuel & Malvina B. Cohen. A U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict, he was a graduate of Univ. of Pennyslvania School of Dentistry and practiced in Hazlit, N.J. for more than 35 years until his retirement in the late l990s. Father of Neil A.(Vicki) Cohen of Fairfax Station, Va. & Marion(Michael) Turiano of Milford, Ct. Brother of the late Loretta LaCamp. Also survived by his grandchildren, Sasha, Hannah, & Madaline.

 

Pearl Epps Evans, 96

Pearl Epps Evans, 96, of Hamden, passed away January 25, 2012. Born Oct. 14, 1915 in Hazelhurst, Mississippi. Predeceased by husband Wendell Evans, she retired from Olin Research as a Lab Servicer. She leaves two daughters Georgianna E. Coleman of Hamden, and Gail E. Brooks of Urbana, Ill and one son George T. Epps Jr. of New Haven. Three Grandchildren Renee Epps, Chris Coleman and George Epps III, three great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, two loving friends, Geneva Perkins and Lucille Worthy of Hamden and Godson Mark Kittrell of Meriden.

 

Doris M. Falchero, 87

Doris M. Falchero, 87, of Hamden, passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 22, 2012. Born in Hamden on February 19, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Cherubino and Emma Verna Falchero. She had worked as a bookkeeper for the E.J. Davis Company, was a member of the New Haven Catholic Woman's Society and the Hamden Senior Citizens Center.
