Sit-Up Challenge Proves Challenging

Achievement comes in the preparation prior to the execution.

Throughout the month of May, the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts held their first annual sit-up challenge.

This challenge was designed by Shihan Frank Ciarleglio to help motivate the students to become better with their sit-ups.

“The goal is to compete with yourself to become better and better - that is one of the most important aspects of the Martial Arts, self-improvement” said Ciarleglio.

For those who find competing with others motivating, Ciarleglio designed the challenge so there is a competition within the individual classes (separated by age and levels), as well as a competition throughout the Academy. Ciarleglio monitored everyone’s improvements and coached the students on how to improve.

“To improve in any task it takes motivation, self-discipline and hard work at the correct things. So many people set goals to improve their way of life and work very hard but are not working at the correct things and get nowhere," he said. "It is important to have a plan of action and surround yourself with other goal-oriented people as well as work with someone who can guide you if you need help to achieve your goal."

The Academy of Kempo would like to congratulate the participants whose sit-ups improved throughout the month and hopes that they will continue their journey to better health and well-being.

  • Eyad Salem for being the most improved in the Little Dragons Class (4 years old through 6 years old) and to Heidi Oyuela for being the most improved in the Beginner Preteen Class (7 years old through 10 years old).
  • To Tyler Brown for being the most improved in the Advanced Preteen Class (7 years old through 11 years old), to Kylie Ray for being the most improved in the Junior Adult Class (11 years old through 15 years old) and the most improved in the Academy.

“Our programs at the Academy of Kempo are not just about the punch and the kick; it’s about becoming the best you can be in everything you do,” said Ciarleglio.
