"Something's Coming" For The Whitney Players

The Hamden theater group wIll perform "West Side Story" next week.

Get ready to rumble: The Whitney Players will put on "West Side Story" August 10-13 at Hamden High School. 

The Whitney Players is a Hamden-area community theater groups that includes actors and dancers of all ages, which was co-founded in 2001 by director Cindy Simell-Devoe.

This year, the Player's are producing the classic Leonard Bernstein musical "West Side Story." According to the officail synopsis, the musical is "Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet...transported to modern-day New York City, as two young idealistic lovers find themselves caught between warring street gangs, the "American" Jets and the Puerto Rican Sharks. Their struggle to survive in a world of hate, violence and prejudice is one of the most innovative, heart-wrenching and relevant musical dramas of our time." Some of the musical's most famous songs include "Somewhere," "Maria," and "Gee, Officer Krumpke"
