DIY Scented Playdough with Essential Oils: A Calmer Playtime

Don't underestimate the power of a few drops of essential oils when added to a children's acitivity. Playdough is the perfect tool for this -- and by mixing a little lavender or peppermint oil in the dough, the kids will be calmer, more focused and they'll play with this all day!

Playdough Recipe:

1 cup flour
1/2 cup salt
2 T cream of tartar
1 T olive or vegetable oil
1 cup water
food coloring
6-10 drops of essential oil

Mix first 4 ingredients. Add water and stir over meduim heat until dough clumps together. Remove from pot and allow to cool for a couple of minute on a sheet of wax paper. Divide the dough into 4 equal pieces and make a well in each one, adding 10 drops of food coloring into each well. Knead until the color is blended and the dough has an elastic consistency (you can add more flour if it's too sticky). Make wells in each one again, adding 6-10 drops of essential oil to each one. Store in airtight containers or bags.
