A Fun Way to Raise Money for Cancer Patients and Research

On Saturday April 20, 2013, the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts held their Second Annual Haturday. It was a great success due to the great supporters and their hats. The Haturday event was planned to raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society with their Pennies for Patients Collection Boxes. “On Haturday our students, family members and friends participated by donating 50 cents each to wear a hat and enter into a contest to win an Academy of Kempo Martial Arts hat. The Academy collected $19.82 and that went towards our goal of collecting $250.00 for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society”, said Shihan Frank Ciarleglio. There were photos taken of each participant with their hats, some of the children created their own hats for the contest and others found some very interesting hats through their travels. There was a Haturday Parade and other fun activities that included their hats. The Academy posted the photos on Facebook in a Haturday Photo Album and is asking people to VOTE for the hats that they like best. You can vote on as many hats as you like by clicking the “like” button near the photo: if there are other voters in your home they can also vote by writing the vote in the comment box. This must include the voters name in the comment, for example, “1 vote from Tom”. The contest will be a week long and whichever hat gets the most votes will win the Academy of Kempo Martial Arts hat. Voting ends on Saturday, April 27, 2013 and the votes will be tallied up. In the case of a tie, there will be a tie breaking voting session. “If you have already voted I want to thank you, it has made the children very happy to hear that they have votes for their hats. If you have not voted I hope that you do,” said Ciarleglio.
