Comedian Chris Doucette to perform at Quinnipiac University April 16

Comedian Chris Doucette, who has written jokes for Emmy Award-winning actress Jane Lynch, will perform on Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. in the Clarice L. Buckman Theater on Quinnipiac University’s Mount Carmel Campus. His performance is part of the university’s events for the Day of Silence, a national campaign to stop bullying based on sexual orientation or gender.

The event is free and open to the public.

Doucette was named the “Comic to Watch” by Comedy 360 Daily. The Advocate, the oldest and largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) publication, included him in a feature on “The Best of LGBT comedy.” He has written jokes used in Lynch’s presentation at the 2012 FiFi Awards. He has performed on Fox and NPR, as well as at Caroline’s Comedy Club and the Gotham Comedy Club in New York City and Zanies Comedy Club in Chicago.

“What’s great about good comedy is that it allows everyone to laugh at the things we usually fight about in blogs. It's perspective. And that’s transformational,” Doucette said.

The comedy show is sponsored by Quinnipiac’s Gay, Lesbian and Straight Supporters (GLASS) student organization. The group also is organizing the national Day of Silence on Friday, April 11, when students across the country refrain from speaking to raise awareness of the silencing effect caused by bullying and harassment to young people who are LGBT or perceived to be.

Eddie Stubbs, president of GLASS, said the Day of Silence events are meant to remind the campus community that this harassment does happen and it will take everyone coming together to prevent it.

“We selected a comedian as our featured speaker to raise awareness through humor and to bring people together with laughter,” said Stubbs, a senior public relations student from Newark, N.J. “And for many, laughter also helps to heal the soul after being silenced for so long.”
