Obituary: Anne Baldyga Lewis

ANNE BALDYGA LEWIS
August 8, 1917 - July 7, 2013

Anne Teofila Baldyga Lewis, 95, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2013 at The Curtis Home in Meriden. She was the widow of William Carl Lewis, formerly of the Mount Carmel section of Hamden. Anne was a devoted mother to Jeanne C. (Gregory) Gherardi of Wallingford, Brian C. (Susan) Lewis of Stratford, and William K. (Suzanne) Lewis of Guilford. She deeply loved her grandchildren, Sara Elizabeth and Justin Michael Lewis of Stratford, and her nieces and nephews. Anne’s eight siblings predeceased her; Rose, Franciszek, Stanislaus, and Ladislaus (Three Rivers, MA) , Joseph I, Joseph II, Adam, and Zofia. 

Anne was born in Worcester, MA, August 8, 1917, to the late Jan and Teofila Szwarc Baldyga. Her parents came from Serafin, Poland in 1906. She grew up in New Britain and Fair Haven and briefly worked for the National Folding Box Company. On November 2, 1940, she married William Lewis at St. Stanislaus Church in New Haven and they lived most of their married life in the Mount Carmel section of Hamden. From 2009 to present day, she was lovingly cared for at the St Elizabeth Center at The Curtis Home in Meriden. 

Anne loved being a homemaker. She also enjoyed gardening, all needlework, music and dancing. In 1982, at the age of 64, she graduated from Hamden High School and was the valedictorian of her class. Some of her happiest days were babysitting her grandchildren. 

Her Catholic faith was an important part of her life and she was a daily communicant at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Hamden. She also belonged to the Ladies Guild and several other parish groups and for a while, was responsible fo the Sanctuary Guild maintaining the sacristy and sanctuary. 

Her family will receive relatives and friends in The Wallingford Funeral Home, 809 North Main St., Ext., Wallingford, Wednesday, July 10, 2013, from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m.when the funeral cortege will proceed to the Church of the Resurrection where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Interment will be in All Saint’s Cemetery in North Haven. Gifts in her memory may be sent to the Our Lady of Grace Monastery, 11 Race Hill Rd., Guilford, CT 06437-1099.
