Our Lady of Mercy in Madison Invites You to Welcome Week on Sunday, January 26

The Office of Catholic Schools (OCS) is sponsoring Welcome Week January 26th through February 2 when all Catholic schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford will be opening their doors to prospective students.  The theme of Welcome Week is “Our Open Doors Lead to Your Child’s Open Mind,” and the purpose of the campaign is to give families an opportunity to tour the schools, meet faculty and students, and learn about the benefits of receiving a Catholic school education.

Our Lady of Mercy in Madison will be open for Welcome Week on Sunday, 1/26, from1 to 3 p.m.

Among Catholic high schools in the Archdiocese of Hartford, the graduation rate is 100%, with 97% of graduates going on to college. On the elementary school level, Catholic students perform between one and three grade levels higher than their public school counterparts on standardized testing in the areas of Language Arts, science, math and social studies.

“These are vital and impressive statistics that we want to share with families who are considering educational options for their children,” said Anne Clubb, Director of Enrollment Management and Marketing for the OCS. “Welcome Week was created to introduce families to the academic excellence and nurturing environments that are cultivated in our Catholic schools.”

Students of all faiths, ethnic groups and socio-economic backgrounds are encouraged to participate in Welcome Week.  Superintendent of Catholic Schools Dr. Dale R. Hoyt wants the public to know that, “Catholic schools are not just available to Catholics. They are open to students of any faith whose families want to instill in their children not only solid academic skills, but a strong, moral character and a commitment to serving society.  Catholic schools educate tomorrow’s leaders, providing them with a foundation for success built on faith.”

Hoyt also notes that tuition assistance is available to students who may need it. Last year 1700 students were helped through the Tuition Assistance Program, which is a component of the Archbishop’s Annual Appeal.  In addition, every one of the 63 schools in the Archdiocese offers its own financial assistance program to help make a Catholic school education accessible to all.
