Bear Visits Hamden Home

Hamden resident Shelby Poe-Argentino had a surprise visitor to her backyard this week — a bear.

Poe-Argentino lives on Mountain Road and has West Rock Ridge State Park bordering her property, but she's never gotten such an up close and personal take on Mother Nature before, she said.

"We've lived here for over 13 years and this is the first bear we've seen," she said.   "We were so excited!"

The Connecticut bear population has continued to increase in recent years to the point that there has been suggestions that hunting will be the only way to control it.

Last year there were bear sitings in Mount Carmel. That bear was thought to make its home in the Naugatuck Forrest.
