Fireworks, Farmers Market Friday

The opening of the Hamden Farmer's Market was rained out last week, but on Friday there will hopefully be nothing but clear skies both for the market and the town's annual Fourth of July celebration.

Last Friday inclemenent weather led to the cancellation of the premier of the Hamden Farmer's Market, but with nice weather forecast for tomorrow, the market is expected to open for the season.

The market will be open from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the parking lot of the Miller Memorial Library and will run Fridays through Oct. 7. Check out the details .

Friday evening the United States Army Field Band will kick off the Arts Commission's 2011 Summer Concert Series with a concert at Town Center Park at Meadowbrook at 7:30 p.m.

The concert is a preclude for the town's annual Independence Day fireworks display, which will start shortly after dusk at about 9:20 p.m. The fireworks are once again sponsored by Hamden's Volunteer Firefighters, who will be on hand collecting donations to go toward the $25,000 cost of the show.

In case of rain, the fireworks will be postponed to Saturday, but the concert will go on as scheduled Friday in the Hamden Middle School auditorium.
