Hamden Hosts First Road Race

The Hamden Road Race will be held at Town Center Park on Saturday, June 8, and includes a 5k run, a 1k Kids Fun Run, and a Health & Wellness Expo.

Mayor Scott D. Jackson, in collaboration with the Hamden Board of Education, the Hamden Chamber of Commerce, Hamden Youth Services Bureau, and the Rotary Club of Hamden, is pleased to announce the first annual Hamden Road Race.

The Hamden Road Race will be held at Town Center Park on Saturday, June 8, and includes a 5k run, a 1k Kids Fun Run, and a Health & Wellness Expo. The 5k road race will start at 9 a.m. and will offer runners some rolling hills in the first mile but reward them with a downhill finish. The 1k Kids Fun Run will be held entirely inside Hamden's Town Center Park and will start at 8:30 a.m. The Health & Wellness Expo will be a great opportunity for vendors, sponsors and advertisers to showcase their products and services to a large, healthy-minded audience.

For the past two years, Hamden has been honored as one of the 100 Best Communities for Young People by the America's Promise Alliance and ING. The award recognizes Hamden for its efforts to engage the entire community in supporting young people—making Hamden an outstanding place for youth to live, learn and grow.

"The Hamden Road Race is an opportunity to celebrate with the many people, organizations, and businesses that helped Hamden earn this distinction," Jackson said. "We are leveraging the small grant we received as a 100 Best Community to launch the Road Race and do even more for Hamden youth."

Hamden has joined forces Team Mossman Events (TME), to organize the race.

“Together we plan to host a first-class fitness event to bring not only the town of Hamden together, but to attract others from around the state to see all that Hamden has to offer,” said Clayton Tebbetts, a Race Director for TME.

In its first year, the Hamden Road Race is expecting 2,000 combined runners, spectators, volunteers and vendors for the event.

"The Hamden Road Race is not just for runners. It's a family-oriented event with opportunities for everyone to enjoy," said Julie Smith, Deputy Chief Administrative Officer for the Town of Hamden. "There will be plenty of exciting activities for kids, including a bounce house, food from area restaurants, and services such as free blood pressure checks from Walgreens."

To participate in the race, visit the Hamden Road Race page on www.TeamMossman.com. There you will find easy online registration as well as information about group discounts and volunteer sign up.

To become a sponsor of the event, contact Clayton R. Tebbetts at 203-691-7349 or clay@multisportsacademy.com

All proceeds from the race will be donated to the Town of Hamden's Community Services Department Camp Scholarship Fund. This fund helps families with financial need afford the cost of summer camp for their children.
