Hamden Hosts 'National Night Out'

The town of Hamden Youth Services Bureau, along with support from the Hamden Police, Hamden Fire, Hamden Community Services, the Arts, Recreation and Culture Department, Target and Walgreens, will host the annual Hamden Night Out on Aug. 6 from 4 – 8 p.m. at Rochford Field across from the former Hamden Middle School at 550 Newhall St.

National Night Out is a yearly event designed to build community, generate support for anti-crime and drug prevention programs and strengthen police-community partnerships.

The fun, free evening will feature local entertainment, cook out, arts and crafts activities, face painting, moon bounces, community resources, giveaways and more. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

The Hamden Youth Advisory Committee will be manning a “Positive Choices” Campaign booth to find out more about HYAC’s efforts to prevent underage drinking and drug use in Hamden and information on how to become involved.

HYAC has recently repeated the Search Institute Student Survey to half of Hamden Students in grades 7-12. The survey revealed that Hamden students benefit from many positive assets, which, along with increasing both youth and parent engagement, are key in promoting youth development and reducing risk behaviors.

Youth and family oriented events such as Hamden’s National Night Out provide the opportunity for youth, their families, and community organizations to engage in “Positive Choices” together.
