Honoring Memorials

One reader finds that a local memorial tree that seems to have been chopped down.

Last week, the country honored the memories of those who have died in our nation's service as well as paying tribute to those currently serving this country in our military forces.

While at the Hamden Memorial Day Parade, a Patch reader came across a memorial plaque honoring the memory of a community member that had passed. The plaque reads, "This tree is planted to honor the memory of George Paillet (Pete Frenettes) by his friends 1981."

Sadly, all that is left of the original tree that was planted outside of Miller Library is a stump.

Does anyone know the story behind this tree memorial or the reason it was cut down?
