Letter: Curfew Could Curtail Crime

As the weather gets nicer, one reader calls on town officials to consider instituting a curfew to help curb the crime that comes when kids stay out later at night.

Hamden taxpayers time to contact the mayor as well as the police chief and let them know Hamden needs a CURFEW!

School's letting out soon and with the warmer weather comes groups of teens either walking around or riding bikes at 1 -2 a.m. Nothing good will come of this activity.

Southern Hamden especially needs more frequent patrols and identifications made on these youths out at that hour. Why not implement a curfew and head off the potential bad behavior that comes with kids being out until all hours of the morning.

Northern Hamden take notice as well, this is not just a south end problem. Maybe the youths walking or riding their bikes is, but the same problems arise in the north, they just happen to be car loads of kids. Soon we will read about mail boxes being smashed with bats while they hang out the car windows.

The Plaza and Mart will be loaded with groups there simply to amuse themselves by harassing other youths and adults as well. This has been an ongoing ever growing problem in Hamden, especially during the summer months.

It's not fair that hard working taxpayers have to sleep with one eye open for fear their car won't be there in the morning or their homes broken into or vandalized. This is the ONE THING that Hamden's Legislative Council and the mayor can do for the taxpayers that won't cost millions!
