Only Days Left for Dogs at Hartford Shelter

More dogs facing death this week in Hartford -- they need to find homes by 3 p.m. Wednesday.

It never ends.

As soon as dogs brought in to the Hartford Animal Shelter find homes, there's always more coming up behind them, desperate for someone to save them.

The Hartford Animal Shelter has a high volume of dogs coming into the facility at all times, but unlike shelters like here in Hamden and North Haven, the clock starts ticking for these dogs the moment they walk through the door. Ten days is all they're given, and in that time if volunteers don't line up homes for them, they are put to sleep.

The good news is that through the hard work of Animal Control Officer Sherry DeGenova and volunteers with the Friends of the Hartford Animal Shelter, just about every dog that comes in leaves alive and ready for their forever home. The shelter has not had to euthanize an adoptable dog in more than a year.

But that record is only possible because people step up and open their homes to the dogs. If you can't adopt, share them through social media. It may save a life.

To adopt any of the Hartford Shelter dogs, email ctshelterdogs@gmail.com for an adoption application.
