Brooksvale’s domestic animal barnyard has been open for the public’s enjoyment each day for close to 50 years. Currently residing at the park are ponies, sheep, goats, rabbits and chickens. Brooksvale Park is a licensed animal exhibitor by the US Department of Agriculture.

The current design creates limitations for animal care and staff safety, staff members say, and provides little shelter from severe weather conditions and most of all, restricts educational programming opportunities.

Friends of Brooksvale Park are working to raise $95,000 to construct a 36’X36’ one and half story animal barn with readily available water, electricity and food storage area.

It would be constructed with an open center walk through so the animals can be viewed up close by the public and easily serviced by the veterinarian and park staff. It would accommodate school classes and allow for added recreational programs.

The Planning & Zoning Commission, the Mayor’s office and the park’s ranger all have approved the design. The Friends of Brooksvale Park also has been recently awarded for a matching gift challenge from a New England Family Foundation for up to $50,000.

Help Raise the Roof by donating to the group's campaign. Naming opportunities are available at certain levels of contributions for the project.

Friends of  Brooksvale Park, Inc. is a 501(c)3 nonprofit, tax exempt, non-stock corporation whose mission is to provide environmental education, preserve and enhance the integrity of the park’s natural and cultural resources, and serve as an advocate for the park for the benefit of the citizens in the greater Hamden area.
