Sunday Happenings

Here's what's going on today:

-- Chanukah Torch Run at Congregation Mishkan Israel. All interested runners are invited. Meet at the top of East Rock Park at 9 a.m. and run to Mishkan Israel (a 2.5 mile course). Runners will be carrying the authentic torch found in Modiin, the town where Chanukah originated.

At the conclusion, the torch will be used to light a hanukkiah at a special Chanukah assembly for the Religious School. All the children will sing their favorite Chanukah songs and get to eat latkes and applesauce and get a special Chanukah treat.

 

-- The Sleeping Giant Park Association hosts a Hike and Social beginning at 1:30 p.m. 

Hike leaves from the bulletin board at the park entrance. The entrance to Sleeping Giant Park is on the north side of Mt. Carmel Avenue in northern Hamden, about 0.5 mile east of Whitney Avenue.

Hikers should wear comfortable, sturdy shoes and bring snacks and water, as desired. No pets, please.

Social begins after the hike at 3 p.m. at the park.

 

-- Interfaith Caring Shawl Ministry at Congregation Mishkan Israel meets at 10 a.m. at the synoguge,  785 Ridge Rd. 

The group is knitting, crocheting and quilting shawls/lap quilts to be given to residents of Whitney Center who are bereaved, facing a transition to living in a nursing facility, are in the hospital or facing other life events where being wrapped in love would be a comfort.

 

--- Indie Craft Extravaganza at The Space, 295 Treadwell St. from noon to 5 p.m.

Edgy and unique designs made for people who enjoy local, original wares. Offering handmade, baked, up-cycled & re-purposed goods by crafters from CT, MA, NY & RI.

There will be 40-50 vendors, a sandwich bar, a photo booth with props, and chair massages offered. Vendors will feature handmade fibers, jewelry, cards, photos/illustrated prints, silk screened clothing, vintage wear, knitted and crocheted items, handmade clothing, burlesque hair pieces, handbags/tote bags/pouches, record bowls & more!

 

-- Galvanized Band at Aunt Chilada's, 3931 Whitney Ave. 

The Galvanized Jazz Band  performs their mix of hot dixieland, New Orleans jazz, blues, rags, stomps, struts, spirituals, swing, and classic popular songs from the past century.

Show from6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Admission is free.
