The Spinners, Guess Who Head Up Summer Concert Series

Series kicks off July 1 with the U.S. Army Field Band accompanying the town's annual fireworks show.

The Hamden Arts Commission announce its 2011 Summer Concert Series, which includes the following shows:

Friday, July 1: United States Army Field Band

The US Army Field Band, composed of 65 musicians and a 37-member choral group, will perform at Hamden’s Independence Day fireworks display sponsored by Hamden’s Volunteer Firefighters. If bad weather forces postponement of the fireworks to July 2, the concert will still be held on the 1st in the Hamden High School auditorium.

Friday, July 8: Doo Wop Show (Duprees, Chiffons, Legendary Teenagers)

Enjoy some of DooWop’s favorites.

Chiffons: “He’s So Fine,””One Fine Day,” “Sweet Talkin Guy,” “My Boyfriend’s Back”

Duprees: "My Own True Love," "You Belong to Me," "Have You Heard," "Why Don’t You Believe in Me," "Delicious"

Legendary Teenagers: "Why Do Fools Fall in Love," "I’m Not a Juvenile Delinquet," "The ABC’s of Love."

 

Friday, July 15: Steve Augeri (Former lead singer of Journey)

The concert will feature the former lead singer of Journey from 1998 - 2006 singing Journey’s biggest hits, "Don’t Stop Believin," "Anyway You Want It," "Lovin Touchin Squeezin," "Separate Ways," " Ask the Lonely," "Higher Place," "Lights," "Faithfully," "Stone in Love," "Wheel in the Sky," "Kiss Me Softly" and "All the Way.”

 

Friday, July 22: The Spinners

The group’s performance will include their string of hits, mostly from the 1970s: "Could it Be I’m Falling in Love," "It’s a Shame," "I’ll Be Around," "Working My Way Back to You," "I’m Coming Home," "Love Don’t Love Nobody," "Games People Play" and "Rubberband Man."

 

Friday, July 29: The Guess Who

Enjoy hits by this Canadian rock band, including "American Woman," "These Eyes," "No Time," "No Sugar Tonight," "Share the Land" and "Clap for the Wolfman."

The major 2011 sponsors for the series include Quinnipiac University, Yale University, TD Bank, NewAlliance Foundation, Arden House, Hamden Rotary Club, United Illuminating and Southern Connecticut Gas.
