Voting Ends Friday for August Movie Picks

Residents can vote on which movies will be shown Friday nights in August at the Town Center Park.

 

The town of Hamden and the Town Center Park Commission will feature a Friday night outdoor movie series in Town Center Park this August, and residents will be able to vote on the final choices.

The town will offer four themed movie nights with five possible choices for each night.

“We had a very positive response from last year's event, and we are pleased to be able to offer expanded programming through August that will complement the annual Fireworks and the July summer concert series," Mayor Scott Jackson said.

Members of the public can vote for their choice by logging on to merrimanriver.com/movienight and can even view the theatrical trailers. Up to 10 votes may be cast per individual I.P. address.

The choices are as follows:

Friday, August 3 is Musical Night, and voters will choose from Chicago, Grease, Moulin Rouge, The Producers and The Wizard of Oz.

Friday, August 10, will be Academy Award night, and voters will choose between five Best Picture winners, Around the World in Eighty Days, Casablanca, Forrest Gump, The King’s Speech and Rocky.

Friday, August 24 will feature 80’s Night, and the choices will be Back to the Future, The Big Chill, The Breakfast Club, Ghostbusters and Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Friday, August 31 will feature Family Movie Night for the season finale. Voters will choose between Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, The Lion King, Mary Poppins, The Princess Bride and Ratatouille.

Town Center Park Chairman Matthew Fitch noted there is no movie currently scheduled for Friday, August 17.

“We are putting the finishing touches on a special event for that weekend," he said. "We are looking forward to announcing that event shortly, so stay tuned.”

All movie show times will be at 8 p.m. Voting is now underway at merrimanriver.com/movienight. The deadline to cast a vote is Friday, June 8 at 5 p.m.
