Winners Chosen in Cheshire's "Art in the Gardens" Contest

The first and second place winners are from Highland and Doolittle Schools.

Congratulations to the Cheshire students who were entrants in the "Art in the Gardens" contest and a big thank you to their parents for submitting the artwork in the Cheshire Patch contest!

We received 160 votes from the online poll and and from visitors who attended the "Art in the Gardens" reception Friday night at Cheshire Nursery Garden Center & Flower Shop on Friday night.

The results were very close with just two votes between the first and second place winners!

Here are the winning designs:

  • Grand prize: design #1 "Spray Paint Art" by Tommy from Highland school. He receives a $50 gift certificate. He received 34 percent of the vote.
  • Second place: design #3 "Still Life with Fruit" by Jagger from Doolittle school. He receives a $25 gift certificate. He received 33 percent of the vote.
  • Third place: design #2 "Birches," by Kelsea, age 11. She receives a $15 gift certificate. She received 23 percent of the vote with a surge of last-minute votes at the reception!
  • Honorable mention: design # 4 "Still Life 'Golf;" by TJ, Cheshire High School. He will receive a $10 gift certificate*.

Here is a note about the contest and reception from Tommy's mom, Nicole:

"I would like to thank you for putting on such a wonderful contest. It was nice to see other children who are passionate about art just like Tommy!

What a lovely event. We enjoyed walking through the artists' displays and chatting with local business people."

Cheshire Patch gives a special thank you to Sylvia Nichols of the Cheshire Nursery Garden Center & Flower Shop and Dale Spaner with the Cheshire Art League for their partnership in the contest.

Parents who would like to share their children's artwork on Cheshire Patch may sumbit a photo of the design to the "Pics & Clips" page. Please give us just the child's first name, age and school. We will feature their work and continue to support art education in Cheshire's Public Schools!

*There were no kindergarten entries in the special category, therefore the gift certificate is provided for the honorable mention prize.
