Bites Nearby: Smokey's

One of Hamden's newest eateries offers not your average fare.

You could stand on a corner and look around until a restaurant sign draws you in. But we've got a better idea. Each week, Hamden Patch picks a great restaurant either in town or nearby that is worth checking out.

Here's this week's choice:

:  Located at 3810 Whitney Ave., Smokey's is a newcomer to the area, opening in June 2010.

“For a new place we are doing well," owner David Irving said.

With an intimate dining area of 10 tables, ample parking and patio seating, Smokey's is easily accessible and a comfortable place to catch a bite.

Smokey’s specializes in offerings such as pulled pork, pulled chicken, wings, brisket and steak, and also offers soups and sandwiches and seafood. Sandwiches come on either a soft roll or Texas toast -- your choice.

There are plenty of side dishes to go an order -- macaroni and cheese, coleslaw, cornbread, baked beans, baked and sweet potatoes, onion rings and of course, french fries. There are beverages and desserts to compliment a meal.

Smokey’s also offers kid’s plates and platters for parties. Everything tastes great and has that homemade taste that's so hard to find.

Irving does all the food preparation himself, saying that he has “always had a passion for cooking." His friendly personality contributes to the restaurant's friendly atmosphere, whether you eat in or take out.

Smokey’s is open Sunday through Wednesday 11:30 – 8:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday 11:30 – 9:00 p.m. and is closed on Mondays. Delivery is available. For more information, call 203-909-6729 or visit www.smokeyschargrill.com to see their menu.

while receiving Staples Rewards does help defray the cost of supplies for the teachers, they areRead More STILL putting cash out of their own pockets! This should not be. But Kudos to the teachers who put their students above their own financial situation. The Town and parents should be footing the costs, not the teachers.
