Daniella Marie Hair Boutique: Branching Out

For years, Daniella Mut has cut hair in her home, and at the children's salon Tantrum, a Salon for Kids on Whitney Avenue.

But recently she and her partner Ralph Mauriello decided that it's time to officially start their own business. And there was no question where that business would be -- in Hamden.

So Mut and Mauriello opened Daniella Marie Hair Boutique at 3013 Dixwell Ave, next door to the American Legion Post 88 near the intersection of Dixwell and Whitney avenues.

"I decided it was time -- I didn't want to do it out of my house anymore," Mut said. "So far I've gotten a good response -- it's getting there as people get to know me."

The salon is located in the back of the building, so clients have had to find her there, she said. But once they do, they're treated to an upscale salon with lot of room for hair cuts, shampoos and anything else one could desire in a salon.

"We're working on signage so people can find us better," Mut said.

Hairdressing was something she knew she wanted to do from a very young age, Mut said. "I've always had a passion for it," she said.

The salon opened Sept. 15 but will hold its grand opening this Wednesday, Nov. 28 with a Hamden Chamber of Commerce Business Before Hours at 8:30 a.m.

In the future, she would like to hold fundraisers for causes like cancer, Mut said, similar to the hair cuttings that benefit Locks of Love where hair is donated to make wigs for cancer patients. Stay tuned for more information on that.

Daniella Marie Hair Boutique is located at 3013 Dixwell Ave. and is open Tuesday and Wednesdays from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Fridays from 9:30 to 5 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
