Hamden Business Spotlight: Side Street Grille

It's Hamden's version of 'Cheers.'

While Side Street Grille may be a great place to get a drink, it's also knows for its menu, according to co-owner Dave DeNicola.

The restaurant at 15 Dickerman Street opened in 1996, he said.

"We wanted to create a fun, friendly neighborhood restaurant that provided quality food and generous portions at reasonable prices," he said. "Our bar is as comfortable and inviting as a 'Cheers' episode. The menu and theme reflects our sense of humor."

And the location was ideal, he said — the restaurant is right off Whitney Avenue by the Route 40 connector and just down the street from Quinnipiac University.

"There was a great opportunity, being so close to Q.U.," he said, and there is "a great business environment in Hamden."

While the restaurant serves a variety of alcoholic beverages, it's been recognized for its food, DeNicola said.

"We are known for our award-winning chicken wings and ribs," he said, "but our 10 ounce Char grilled Burgers and Chicken sangawiches are hugely popular. Yes, sangawiches."

The restaurant has won BEST OF awards from the New Haven Advocate that include Best Wings, Best Burger, Best Ribs, Best American Food, Best Neighborhood Bar and Best Beer selection, he said.

On its website, www.sidestreetgrille.com, there are special discount coupons and Buy One, Get Oone lunch offer, he said and  on Wednesday's there's BOGO burgers. Also find them on Facebook here.

"Try us!" he said.
