Hamden Entrepreneurs in Competition for Cash

The idea came simply from a rental car in Europe.  Now, Hugh and Sylvia Winchell of Hamden are marketing “My Super-Visor” and competing in a Walmart competition.

It was summer in England and the Winchell’s were driving into the bright glare of the sun and noticed the vehicle had an added benefit besides the regular visor to help block that glare.  They started looking at all of the vehicles and they all had them.  Back in the US they quickly realized that many vehicles here didn’t have them.  

They did some research and found lots of information regarding accidents caused by sun glare. Many roads have been laid out on east-west plans, so the sun presents particular problems to drivers during the spring and fall seasons. Sunrises and sunsets happen during the daily rush hours, so the sun could blind your vision during the hours that you need it most. My Super-Visor is made from a unique flexible vinyl film with a clear removable acrylic pressure sensitive adhesive. My Super-Visor can be adhered to the inside or the outside of your windshield. 

Recently they discovered the Walmart “Get On The Shelf” competition and entered their product.  They had to have an active website and a video of the product and made it through the first round. Now the products up for consideration have to go to public voting.

The competition features individuals and small businesses and gives them a chance to get their products onto Walmart.com and into stores. This is the second year that Walmart has hosted the competition.
