Hotel, Mixed Use Development Proposed For Centerville Lumber Site

Developers presented plans Tuesday night for a hotel, retail, residential and office uses at the site of the former Centerville Lumber, as well as a paint store and deli that operated on the Whitney Avenue property.

"I've been a Hamden resident since 1991 and I think this is exactly the kind of development Hamden needs," engineer Jay Bunson told the Planning and Zoning Commission. "It is consistent with the goals and priorities of your regulations."

The plans call for a 57,000 square foot, 120 room hotel in the back of the property, and two other buildings housing retail, office and residential space.

The Centerville Hardware building would remain and be expanded. The second building that housed the paint store and deli would be demolished and replaced with a five-floor building with retail on the bottom floor, offices on floors two through four and six 2,000 square foot housing units on the fifth floor.

"We are excited to bring forward this plan and think it is an important site in town," said Attorney Bernard Pelligrino.
