Park Central Tavern Joins With New Haven Bistro

Big plans at the Spring Glen establishment after partnership with Caseus Fromagerie Bistro.

, located at 1640 Whitney Ave., opened in 2009 in the tight-knit Hamden neighborhood of Spring Glen as an independently owned and operated eatery offering classic American tavern fare.

As of Oct. 5, the existing owning partners joined forces with the Sobocinski brothers (Jason and Tom) of Caseus Fromagerie Bistro of New Haven to redefine their menu, solidify a new brand and create an alliance between the two restaurants to better serve their customers.

Park Central Tavern has an extensive private dining room that can seat up to 80 people, which Caseus is looking forward to using for private parties and their signature beer, wine and cheese classes.

Featured menu items include fresh lobster rolls with jicama slaw, classic griddled cheeseburgers on buttered Whole G brioche buns, fresh shucked oysters on the half shell, steak tartare, fried oyster po’boys, crisp pressed chicken, shrimp & grits and lots of daily changing specials. Finish off your meal with some house made ice cream or one of our adult milkshakes.

PCT’s new Executive Chef, Erin Hunt (formerly of Barcelona in New Haven & Fairfield) is eager to launch the neighborhood tavern to the next level. Plans for an expansive rooftop garden and a concentration on local produce, coming next summer, are all in the works.

Look to the Park Central Tavern Facebook page for pictures of daily lunch and dinner specials, as well as a great Mon-Fri Happy Hour - $12 gets you a classic cheeseburger, house made russet fries and a domestic bottle of beer from 4-7 p.m. and Sun-Tues nights are half price bottles of wine.

The new PCT bar selections will head in the same direction as the food, honing in on classic Americana, a concentration on high quality ingredients, and small production spirits, wines, and brews. Caseus’s sommeliers will be working on the new PCT wine list and creating a drink list to really wow.

Will not frequent Park Central Tavern since they changed the menu and cooking staff....not the same. The new owers have not changed it for the better....sad to see another loss in our neighborhood!

As one of the new owners I hope you give us a chance. We're bringing in new foods, fresher foods and more interesting fare. If you have some specific constructive feedback we'd love to hear it so that we can make the Tavern a true neighborhood joint! Thanks we look forward to your input.

I live in Spring Glen and had tried Park Central a couple times but was disappointed. I am so excited about the new menu and chef. My husband and I are big time foodies. We will drive and have gone to places far and wide in search of the best eats. Caseus in New Haven is perhaps one of the best restaurants we have ever ate at, including many in New York that have been featured on the Food network. Often it is very difficult to get a table at Caseus . It is very exciting to hear the talented brothers are now involved with Park Central. This is a huge gain for Spring Glen. I for one cannot wait to try it!

I went to Park Central a few weeks ago and was very disappointed. The scallop appetizer was extremely salty. The wedge salad was just average and was so expensive! The prices must have gone up because we only had a few appetizers and our bill was so high. The prices were as if we were at a New York restaurant. I don't think my friends and I woill go back.
