There's one vacant store at the very end of the Stop and Shop Plaza on Dixwell Avenue across from the Hamden Mart. What would you like to see go in there?

The Stop and Shop Plaza across from the Hamden Mart on Dixwell Avenue is a popular place. Aside from Super Stop and Shop, it also houses big names like Old Navy, Staples and TJ Maxx.

But at the very end of the plaza is a vacant space that has is just waiting for something to move into it.

Being at the end, it's not as visible as the other stores. But it has a parking lot all its own on the side of the building, and one of the plaza entrances leads right to the storefront. With proper signage and promotion, it could be as prominent as any of its neighbors.

What would you like to see go in there? What kind of use do you think is most appropriate for that space? Let us know in the comments.

I know it's bucking the trend, but I'd love to see a bookstore there. I'm not into these ereader things, and yes I can drive to North Haven, but having a Barnes and Noble in Hamden would be nice. I wouldn't want it to be some junk store. There's enough of those already. It should be something that there already isn't a million of in Hamden. Maybe that's why it's still empty -- because there's so many stores already here. Another restaurant is probably best. People are always willing to try new food.

A REAL bookstore/coffeehouse would be nice. I agree.

A tea shop art gallery focusing on local artists (like me, for example). It should feature both fine art and fine craft, serve afternoon tea and be open late. Much better than another big box store. ;)

A sports/activity center for kids. The space probably isn't big enough for that but Hamden needs a sports complex.

Yes, Michele! D.E.S.T.I.N.E.D. to Succeed, Inc. ~ A Youth & Family Center, a 501(c)(3) after-school enrichment program for Hamden residents Grades 5-8 would fit that space perfectly! I have actually spoken with the management company. Funding and community support would get us in there and allow us to make a positive impact on the lives of the youths of Hamden.
