Great Live Music This Weekend

Come to the CT Folk festival this weekend at Edgerton Park.

This weekend don't miss the CT Folk Festival and Green Expo. It's held at Edgerton Park, at the corner of Whitney Avenue and Cliff Street in New Haven, just south of the Eli Whitney barn.

Friday from 7 - 9:30 p.m. it's the Grassy Hill Song Circle, featuring four talented young singer-songwriters, hosted by Vance Gilbert. It's free, but donations are accepted. Bring folding chairs and a picnic.

Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. it's all free, and performers are Nerissa and Katryna Nields, state troubador Chuck Costa, plus CT's most intelligent band, Yale's own Professors of Bluegrass.

At 5 p.m. it's the ticketed concert, with folk/pop sisters The Nields playing again, plus regional bluegrass favorites Too Blue, and Vance Gilbert, one of the best entertainers and singers you'll ever see.

The star attraction is celebrated finger style guitarist Leo Kottke, who has been an innovative force in the acoustic guitar world since 1966. A disciple of John Fahey, he has recorded more than 23 albums, and has played with everyone from  Mike Gordon of Phish to Lyle Lovett, Chet Atkins and Rickie Lee Jones. In the 1980's, tendonitis forced him to change his hard fingerpicking attack to a more classical style. He also has a distinctive baritone voice, which he has famously described as "geese farts on a muggy day".

Don't miss this, there's food, fun, kids activities, of course the Green Expo, and a splendid time is guaranteed for all. Bring chairs and blankets. Food is available, or bring your own party!
