100 years of history with the Girl Scouts

The Milford Historical Society celebrates the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary in their new expanded exhibit space. Cookies (Girl Scout of course) and other refreshments will be served.

On June 2 the Milford Historical Society opens for it’s 2012 season from 1 to 4. The Milford Historical Society’s new expanded exhibit space in the Bryan Downs house on High Street celebrates the Girl Scouts 100th anniversary thanks to the work of many volunteers.

Our summer exhibit "Celebrating Scouting in Milford," will feature scout uniforms including a Mariner Scout uniform and flag. A movie of a Scout award ceremony at Camp Katoya will run continuously. Many photos and scout camping accessories will be on view. Later in the month the display will be supplemented by a national Girl Scout touring showcase highlighting environmental issues. Cookies (Girl Scout of course) and other refreshments will be served.

For fall, the exhibit area will turn to The Milford Garden Club, which is celebrating their 85th anniversary with a flower show, "Historic Milford in bloom" at our houses.
We will be open for tours from Sunday, June 3 through October.

The silent movie is from 1919. One of the dialog cards states "Every scout must be able to swim fifty yards in her clothes." That included her hat!
