Burglary Victim Busted, Too; 17-Year-Old Arrested for Stabbing Cemetery Squatter; Teens Target of Guns Theft Investigation

HAMDEN – A man was arrested for breaking into an apartment earlier this week – and so was the victim.

Police said Branford resident Jon Gariepy, 48, broke into a Whitney Avenue apartment at 8:15 p.m. on April 29. A scuffle ensued between Gariepy and the tenant’s boyfriend, Kenneth Palmeri Jr., 44. The tenant ran next door to call police. The two men were engaged in battle outside when officers arrived, according to police.

Gariepy was taken into custody on charges of second-degree burglary, third-degree assault, third-degree criminal mischief  and breach of peace. When officers located drugs in Palmeri’s pockets, he was arrested too, on charges of possession of narcotics, possession of drug paraphernalia and breach of peace.

MILFORD – A 17-year-old girl was arrested this week in relation to the April 7 stabbing of a 56-year-old man who was camping out in a cemetery.

Police said the teen admitted to stabbing the man after an encounter with him during the early morning hours. Authorities did not state what the teen was doing in the cemetery at the time.

ORANGE – A 16-year-old and an 18-year-old were arrested in relation to the theft of three weapons from a local gun shop.

CT Firearms & Tactical on the Boston Post Road was robbed at approximately 11 p.m. on April 22. Within 90 minutes of that incident, officers at Yale University took into custody a 16-year-old and found on him one of the guns that was reported stolen from the Orange store.

Acting on information obtain through a multi-department investigation, officers also arrested Devin Rutledge, 18, of New Haven. They then arrested the 16-year-old when it was determined that he participated in the robbery, police said.
