Hamden Cash Mob a Success

On Saturday, Books & Company on Whitney Avenue was mobbed -- with customers and cash.

Saturday's "Cash Mob" at Books & Company was a success. Here's what the store' owners posted on their blog on Sunday:

"Cash Mob Saturday, yesterday at Books & Company, was a huge success!  Great crowds!  Fabulous music (THANK YOU musicians & singers!) and the highest daily sales volume by far in our nearly 18 years in business.

We're happy to report that 40% of the day's sales were books -- 400+ lovely, paper & ink, hold-in-your-hands books. We LOVE to sell books -- they're our main reason for being in business. Recent calculations show that book sales volume has declined by more than 50% in the last few years.  So, please tell your reader friends about the book treasures we offer at half price or less.

As many of you know, we enjoy helping you find just the right book!  And as one of our customers says, "You have books I didn't know I wanted until I saw them!"  Unlike the cards & gifts we order, books arrive by serendipity.  It is truly fun to be offered wonderful books in trade.  In turn, those books go home with happy customers to join the stack by the bed & the overflowing shelves that make rooms cozy & inviting.

Help us spread the word about our like-new used books waiting for just the right new owners.   If you weren't able to get here yesterday to spend a $20 + pledge and you would like to come in and support us -- we look forward to seeing you any time!  We're hoping we've gained some momentum towards staying in business -- and staying a valued part of our community"
