Hamden Obituaries: Doris McDermott, 89
Prior to her retirement she was a secretary for the Hamden Public Schools.
Doris (Pohlman) McDermott, 89, of Hamden, died April 1, 2013 .
She was the wife of the late Joseph McDermott and the loving mother of James McDermott of Tucson, AZ, Joseph McDermott of Willimantic, Michael McDermott of Hamden and Patricia Bassi of Bethany
She also was the sister of Rudy Pohlman of East Haven and is survived by five grandchildren and one great grandchild. She was predeceased by brothers Walter, Irving, Julius Pohlman and sisters Dorothy Turley, Gertrude Wooding and Madelyn Faulkner.
Doris was born in New Haven on June 13, 1923, the daughter of the late Julius and Martha Riehl Pohlman. Prior to her retirement she was a secretary for the Hamden Public Schools.
Her funeral will leave from Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church. Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her honor to the Arthritis Foundation , 35 Cold Spring Rd., #411, Rocky Hill, 06067.
