Memorial Town Hall Bus Stop to Close

Next week the Connecticut Transit bus stop in front of Hamden's Memorial Town Hall will close to accomodate the ongoing renovation work there, and couldl be closed for the rest of the year.

The bus stop located in front of the old Memorial Town Hall will be closed beginning Monday due to the ongoing renovation project to the historic building.

The closing affects riders of the D-Dixwell and J-Whitney buses, according to Gretchen Gregg of Connecticut Transit.

"The bus stop at Whitney Avenue & the Hamden Town Hall inbound will be closed beginning July 23. Due to a construction project this bus stop will be unavailable for up to 6 months," she said in a release Thursday.

"Customers should board and alight at Whitney Ave & School St or Whitney Avenue and Worth Avenue," she said.

CT Transit Customer Service representatives are available to assist with information about CTTRANSIT's services, to take comments about the bus service and to assist with lost and found items.

This is wrong and should not happen. I may be the only Hamden resident to speak out against this but I do not care. It is wrong. A week I could understand, but six months is wrong. The Mayor should stop this.

Proud Liberal, this is the beginning of the end for the bus stop. The new road work that is going to be done on the corner of Dixwell and Whitney Ave will not allow CT buses to make the turn on to Dixwell Ave. from Cheshire any longer. The state of CT gave Hamden the go ahead for this Dixwell and Whitney Ave. corner rework months ago. I wonder if this Town Hall remodel project has taken the longest time and cost the taxpayers of Hamden the most money of any building remodel project in Town history, outside of the High School.
