Q Bridge Lane Shift On I-95 to Create 'Significant Delays'

The weekend work along Interstate 95's southbound lanes along the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, also known as the "Q Bridge," is scheduled to begin this Friday.

 

A scheduled lane shift this weekend along the southbound portion of Interstate 95 on the Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge — referred to locally as the "Q Bridge" — is expected to create "significant delays" for motorists, according to the state Department of Transportation.

The work is set to begin this Friday at 10 p.m. And it is expected to continue through to noon on Saturday.

The DOT reports the the traffic shift will place current southbound traffic onto the old northbound lanes of the existing bridge.

The I-95 southbound lane restrictions are scheduled to occurr between the Frontage Road on-ramp (Exit 51) in East Haven and the Interstate 91 off-ramp (Exit 48) in New Haven.

The ramps to and from I-95 southbound, including the Woodward Avenue on-ramp (Exit 50) in New Haven, will remain open during this traffic shift operation, the DOT reports.

The state added that in the case of a weather cancellation, the construction work will be rescheduled to Saturday, Oct. 20 into Sunday, Oct. 21 — or the following weekend.

Lane Closure Info

  • Only one lane of I-95 South will be available from 10 p.m. Friday until approximately 8 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 20.
  • Two lanes will be available from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. (noon) Saturday, Oct. 20.

The DOT is asking area motorists to "plan ahead and consider alternate routes to get to your destination."

Corridor Improvement Program

This work is part of the I-95 New Haven Harbor Crossing (NHHC) Corridor Improvement Program.

The I-95 NHHC Corridor Improvement Program construction includes the new Pearl Harbor Memorial Bridge, the new Route 34 Flyover Bridge and reconstruction of the I-95/I-91/Route 34 interchange.
