Sandillo Scholarship Applications Being Accepted

The Hamden Democratic Town Committee sponsors the scholarship in memory of long-time party activist.

The Hamden Democratic Town Committee is sponsoring a scholarship in honor of Gloria C. Sandillo, a long-time party activist whose untimely death two days before the election in November 2007 shocked the community.

"Longtime, local Democratic figure and confidante to many, Gloria Sandillo suffered a fatal heart attack on Nov. 2," the Hamden Daily News reported at the time. "She served on the Board of Education and was town clerk and executive director of the Hamden Chamber of Commerce. Sandillo is remembered as a 'political giant' and a loyal friend."

A scholarship will be presented to a Hamden student who is a senior and meets the following criteria:

  1. Hamden resident
  2. Registered Democrat
  3. Background in community service
