Storm Information from Town Officials

Here's the latest about recovery efforts from the October snow storm.

As of 2:25 p.m., 2,480 remain without electricity in Hamden. Here's what town officials are saying about the work going on:

  • Warming and charging stations available in Hamden today: Ridge Road Fire Station, 421 Hartford Tpk., 429 Dunbar Hill Rd., the Dunbar Hill Fire Station and Hamden Elderly Services, 2910 Dixwell Ave. rear of Miller Library, until 4:30 p.m.
  • Hamden Emergency Management will be opening an emergency shelter at 420 Dunbar Hill Rd., at the Dunbar Hill Volunteer Fire Station, beginning at 6 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 31st until 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. Please bring your own bedding and medications. Water and small snacks will be provided. People with food allergies should provide their own non perishable food. Both on street parking and spaces next to the fire station are available. The shelter opening is planned for one night due to UI's projections for power restoration.
  • From Red Cross: Check www.211.ct.org for latest info on shelter locations. Bring pillows, blankets, bedding with you. Don't forget prescriptions, too!
  • From Jim Torgerson, UI: We expect to have all power restored by end of day Monday; will turn over crews to help CL&P.
  • Gov Malloy's reminder: If you reach an intersection and the stoplight is out, treat it as a stop sign. There are still many intersections where traffic lights are out so use caution and be courteous.
  • Planet Fitness is offering free use of its shower facilities at all its locations, including Marne St. In Hamden.
  • The Hamden/North Haven YMCA is open for residents needing hot showers and charging stations for their phones, lap tops, etc. The Y is open for these services weekdays until 9 p.m. and until 4:30 p.m on weekends. Please bring a photo ID to visit the Y.
  • Halloween Trick or Treating will go forward in Hamden this evening as planned. Parents and trick or treaters are asked to use extra caution this evening and exercise good judgment. Gov. Malloy advises parents not to let children trick or treat today without "constant supervision" given downed trees and wires.
  • Shepard Avenue is open but there are still a number of areas where trees are on power lines and/or in the roadway so caution is advised while driving that road.
  • Statewide, the number of trees down in this storm is five times those lost in Irene.
