Storm Leaves Hundreds in the Dark in Hamden

Almost 7 percent of the town lost power at the height ofTuesday night's storm.

 

The wind blew and the rain fell Tuesday night, and with it came the power outages.

By midnight Wednesday there were 1,756 without power, which equalled almost 7 percent of those served by UI, and in some areas United Illuminating was estimating that power wouldn't be restored until sometime this evening.

But by just before 8 a.m. Wedensday morning, that number had dwindled to about 250, less than one percent of UI"s Hamden customers.

A tornado watch was posted until 11 p.m. but there were no reports of any in the area. But the wind produce damage, with reports of downed trees and power lines throughout the town, and especially in the Benham Street area.

But today promises to bring much better weather. According to the National Weather Service, there's a chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 7 a.m., and then cloudy through mid morning, with gradual clearing and a high near 73. The chance of precipitation is 30%.
