Three Add Energy to Hamden-North Haven LWV

Shahid Abdul-Karim, In'Naam Abdul-Karim among those joining the Hamden-North Haven League of Women Voters.

Three energetic members recently joined the Hamden-North Haven League of Women Voters and hit the ground running.

Andrea Sangrey Aldrich, until recently the town/urban planner for the Town of Darien and the City of Bridgeport, and now Program Manager of Grant Research Affairs of the Yale Medical School Cancer Center, is the new Voter Services Chair for the Hamden-North Haven LWV. Her team will include, in Hamden, former state representative Nancy Beals and Shahid Abdul-Karim, a member of the Hamden Town Committee, and in North Haven Miriam Brody and another member, to be determined. In June, Aldrich was elected Development Director of the League of Women Voters of Connecticut. She has a Masters in urban planning from Southern Connecticut State University.

In’Naam Abdul-Karim was elected to the Board of the Hamden-North Haven LWV as Secretary. Formerly a theatrical stage coordinator, stage designer, and a performer in Texas, Abdul-Karim is the president of S.A.K. Consultants LLC, a Connecticut-based firm specializing in event planning, booking management, marketing, and promotions. She is also national sales coordinator for Aurora Agra, a company that assists with revitalizing the soil for organic farming. In 2011, she was elected to the Hamden Town Committee. Abdul-Karim is pursuing her B.A. in business accounting at Southern Connecticut State University. She is married to D. Shahid Abdul-Karim.

Donavan Shahid Abdul-Karim is the founder and CEO of S.A.K. Consultants LLC, description above. Last year, he was named to the Hamden Fire Commission and in 2012 began serving on the Hamden Town Committee. In June, he joined the New Haven Register as a reporter focusing on stories in the community that merit a deeper look. He also serves on the Board of Directors of the Muslim Journal, an international newspaper based in Homewood, IL. Abdul-Karim has a B.S. in Human Service Relations from Springfield College in Springfield, MA. He is married to In’Naam Abdul-Karim.

The League of Women Voters neither supports nor opposes political candidates, works to increase understanding of public policy issues, seeks to influence public policy through education and advocacy, and encourages informed and active participation in government.

It welcomes civic-minded men (since 1974) and women of all political persuasions. For more information, call 203/248-8035 or write Membership@lwvct.org, also visit www.lwvct.org

Check out the CVS parking lot when the High School lets out. I've seen "Daddy" picking upRead More little "Johnny" in a Town owned car. We know it was tax money paying for the gas, just hope it was lunch time. I thought the Town was cracking down on inappropriate use of vehicles. I hope not many have use of a car on Sunday, and sure hope they were on Town duty. Yes, Angela, sadly you are right, nothing will change, but there is always a chance maybe someone will listen.

CORRUPTION- IS MORE LIKE IT. GRAFT, UNLESS YOU CHANGE YOUR VOTING HABITS - AS ENSTEIN SAID- DOINGRead More THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND EXPECTING A DIFFERENT RESULT IS INSANITY. THAT IS THE VOTING HERE IN HAMDEN- INSANE THAT PEOPLE CONTINUE TO VOTE DEMOCRATIC AND EXPECT THINGS TO CHANGE. If you notice all cities with the democratic party in charge in the U.S. has the same problems. Start with New Haven, Hamden, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, Atlanta, New Orleans, they all have the same problems. Welfare, union legacy costs, taxation, North Haven seems to be run better, must check that out. Don't know if that is a democrat or not.

Beth there is so much abuse in this town it is ridiculous. How about getting stopped for seat beltRead More violations when most of the police do not wear them, or when they use cell phones instead of hands free devices. Could go on and on but who cares it will change NOTHING.
