Voting Open For Town's Friday Night Movies

The town will again feature a Friday night outdoor movie series in Town Center Park this August, and residents will be able to vote on the nominees.

The town of Hamden and the Town Center Park Commission will again feature a Friday night outdoor movie series in Town Center Park this August, and residents will be able to vote on the nominees.

Hamden Mayor Scott Jackson said the town will offer five themed movie nights with five possible choices for each night.

“We had a great response from last year's series, and we are pleased to be able to offer free public entertainment all summer long," Jackson said. The movie nights will complement the annual fireworks and the popular July summer concert series, he said.

Members of the public can vote online for their choice by going to www.merrimanriver.com/movienight.  There, you can view the theatrical trailers and cast up to 10 votes per individual I.P. address.

This year’s lineup:

Friday, August 2 will be MUSICAL NIGHT. The choices are "Chicago," "Mamma Mia!," "Phantom of the Opera," "The Producers" and "The Sound of Music."

Friday, August 9 will be ACADEMY AWARD NOMINEE NIGHT. Voters will choose between five of this year’s Best Picture nominees, "Argo," "Beasts of the Southern Wild," "Lés Misérables," "Life of Pi," and "Lincoln."

Friday, August 16 will be SET IN EUROPE NIGHT. The choices are "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," "The King’s Speech," "Midnight in Paris," "Roman Holiday," and "Waking Ned Devine."

Friday, August 23 will be MOVIES THAT INSPIRED A SEQUEL NIGHT. The choices are "Back to the Future," "Jurassic Park," "National Treasure," "Oceans’s Eleven" and "The Sting."

Friday, August 30 will be PIXAR FAMILY NIGHT. Voters will choose between "Brave, Cars," "The Incredibles," "Monsters, Inc.," and "Ratatouille."

The town also will feature the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball broadcast on August 18, featuring the New York Yankees at the Boston Red Sox live from Fenway Park.

“Major League Baseball has again been very supportive of the idea and we hope to have final approval shortly,” said Town Center Park Commission Chairman Matthew Fitch.

All movie show times will be at 8 p.m.  Voting is now underway.  The deadline to cast a vote is Friday, March 1 at 8 p.m.  Results will be announced on March 4.

So, let me get this straight- they take money out of the economy from us only to put it back into the economy because they know better how it should be used. Sure, that makes sense. They know better than YOU.
