Board of Education: Republican Lynn Campo

Hamden Patch offered the candidates the opportunity to state their case for the voters. Here's what Republican Board of Education candidate Lynn Campo has to say.

From 1995 to 2009, I served on the Hamden Board of Education, before serving one term as 9th District Legislative Council Member.  My husband Lee and I own and operate Specialty Wire & Cord Sets in southern Hamden.  In serving on the BOE & Council, I have tried to use a reasonable approach to budget and spending, just as we employ in building a successful business.

In serving on the BOE, educating children is my focus but parents, teachers, administration and staff must work together to help all children reach their potential.  The best teaching practices, resources to support curricula, regular communication between school and home and constant monitoring of programs to ensure funding is never wasted are my top priorities.

In my previous terms on the BOE, I regularly attended PTA meetings as liaison at West Woods, Helen Street and Church Street schools where more specific needs of the schools surface.  As a BOE member it is important to reach out to the community as well as the Legislative Council and Mayor to support the schools and the needs of our children.  Currently I serve as secretary of the Hamden Rotary Club and working through the Rotary Club I participated with town and school staff in organizing the first Hamden 5K Road Race.

I would like to take up the challenge of working with the Superintendent, administration, teachers, and parents in moving forward Hamden Public Schools.
