Folksingers Charlie King and Karen
Brandow will present a concert and performance piece about the Lawrence Strike
of 1912 as a benefit for the Greater New Haven Labor History Association
at 7:30
p.m. on Saturday September 21st,
at United Church on the Green, 270 Temple Street, New Haven. Local musician
Frank Panzarella will open the second set.

Charlie King has been at the heart of American folk music for half a century.
His songs have been recorded and sung by Pete Seeger, Holly Near, Ronnie

Small. He has released a dozen solo albums since 1976 as well as three albums
with the touring ensemble Bright Morning Star and numerous compilation albums

Karen Brandow has been performing with King since 1998. From 1986 until 1984,
Karen was a human rights worker in Guatemala and she studied voice, performance
and classical guitar, performing as a soloist at political and cultural events.
She was a founding member of the a cappella singing group, the Non-Traditional
Imports.

this year. Its mission is to collect, preserve, and share the history of
working people in the Greater New Haven area by maintaining archival
collections for use by historical researchers; presenting public exhibits,
films and talks; working with unions and individuals to document their history;
and producing quarterly newsletters, a web site and booklets as well as other
educational publications.
