PRESS RELEASE

The Cheshire Rugby Club will be creating an Under 15 boys team (U15) this spring and is seeking players from Cheshire and neighboring towns. An informational meeting will be held for prospective players and parents Thursday February 7th at 6pm Dodd Middle School in Cheshire.

Rugby is the fastest growing team sport in the US and will now be included in the 2016 Olympics. Cheshire Rugby has run a Touch Rugby league in the summer the last four years and now the demand has been created to form a youth contact team for 7th, 8th, and some 9th graders. Similar programs will be starting this spring in Fairfield and the Hartford area and will join existing U15 programs in Redding and Greenwich.

The program will focus on safety, fun, and learning the exciting sport of rugby. The team aims to instill in every player the core rugby values of respect, sportsmanship, discipline, teamwork, and inclusion. All boys who were 14 or younger as of September 1st are eligible to play for the program. Eligible 9th graders will have the option of playing for the U15 team or the High School B team.

The high school program, also open to neighboring town boys and girls, will have registration on February 13th at 6pm at Cheshire High School.

The participation fee will be $185 with assistance available. Practices will be held 2-3 times per week from 4pm to 530pm. The boy’s season will run from Mid-March until early June. It is open to any boy in good physical health from any town wanting to join.  All details will be discussed at the meeting on February 7th and no commitment is required to attend.
