One of the hubs of Hamden life is being honored on this year's 2013 Holiday Ornament.
Miller Memorial Library is depicted on this year's ornament released by the Hamden Arts, Recreation and Culture Department.
The ornament is shaped like an open book, featuring an image of the former library that was built in 1952. It remained a library until 1980, when it was transformed into the Police Department building. It was recently demolished this fall when the Police Department moved into its new home, an addition to Memorial Town Hall.
The pewter ornaments, printed on both sides, are $10 each, and will include a brief history of the Library.
To reserve and/or pick up the 2013 ornament, call the Recreation Office at 203-287-2579. All ornaments are sold on a first - come, first - served basis.
Ornaments also can be purchased at the Arts Commission office, located in the Miller complex, from 8:30-12 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Also available are more recent ornaments, including the 2012 ornament featuring the Hamden Police Department & 2011 ornament honoring the Hamden Volunteer Fire Dept. Each is being sold for $10.
Earlier editions such as 1997 Thornton Wilder House, 2002 Margaret L. Keefe School, 2003 Spring Glen School, 2007 Farmington Canal Greenway and 2008 Whitneyville Church and others are available on a limited basis. They will be sold at a reduced rate of $5 each while supplies last.
