Make the Holidays Brighter for a Hamden Senior

Donations are needed for the fourth annual Hamden Senior Holiday Gift Run.

The Hamden community is teaming up to make the holidays a little happier for senior citizens.

The fourth annual Hamden Senior Holiday Gift Run is scheduled for Dec. 18 at the Miller Senior Center, 2901 Dixwell Ave. The event is collaboration between AM 1220 WQUN, Quinnipiac Bank & Trust, VNA Community Healthcare, LIFETIME Care at Home, the Miller Senior Center and Arden House.

Monetary donations as well as non-perishable food and new items such as gloves, hates, scarfs, blankets, gift cards and toiletries are being accepted at various Hamden locations.

“It’s not only about the gifts,” said Steve Savino, WQUN’s assistant general manager and the main organizer of the gift run. “It’s more about banding together and making sure our seniors know we are thinking of them.

“The gift run has become part of the tradition of the season,” Savino said. “It’s for a great cause. There’s nothing more you need than to see the smiles on their faces.”

Contributions can be dropped off at the following Hamden locations: Arden House, 850 Mix Ave.; Atria Larson Place, 1450 Whitney Ave.; Eye Center, 2880 Old Dixwell Ave.; Hamden Regional Chamber of Commerce, 2969 Whitney Ave.; Hindinger Farm, 810 Dunbar Hill Road (cash only), ION Bank, 2989 Whitney Ave. (items only); Marisa’s Hair Salon, 374 Mather St. (cash only); Miller Senior Center (items only); Quinnipiac Bank and Trust, 2704 Dixwell Ave.; Subway, 2100 Dixwell Ave. (cash only); VNA Community Healthcare, 2319 Whitney Ave. (items only) and Whitney Manor, 2798 Whitney Ave.
