What's Open, What's Closed on Christmas Eve/Christmas

Today is a federal and state holiday as local residents celebrate Christmas. Take a look at what's open and what's closed on Christmas Eve, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, Dec. 25.



Dec. 24 brings a change in schedule and Dec. 25 is considered a government holiday, both state and federal, in observance of Christmas Day. There are a lot of closings, so take a careful look.

Take a moment and check out what's open and what's closed to help you plan ahead before you head out on Christmas Eve and Christmas:


Christmas Eve, Tuesday, Dec. 24
  • Hamden Town Hall: Open but may close early.
  • Hamden Public Library: Closed
  • Hamden schools: Closed
  • Banks and U.S. Financial Market: Open, many close by 3 p.m.
  • U.S. Post Offices: Open, though most business before Noon (12 p.m.)
  • State Government Offices: Most open, some half day. 
  • State Courts: Open
  • Liquor Stores: Open
  • Supermarkets: Most will close early.
  • Retail stores: Most are open until 5 p.m. or 6 p.m., so call ahead. CVS and Walgreens are providing 24-hour service.
  • Hamden Parks: Open daytime, closed at dusk.


Christmas, Wednesday, Dec. 25

  • Hamden Town Hall: Closed
  • Hamden Public Library: Closed
  • Hamden schools: Closed
  • Banks and U.S. Financial Market: Closed
  • U.S. Post Offices: Closed
  • State Government Offices: Closed
  • State Courts: Closed
  • Liquor Stores: Closed
  • Supermarkets: Most are closed. Call ahead.
  • Retail stores: Most will remain closed, reopening Dec. 26.
  • Hamden Parks: Open daytime, closed at dusk.


Looking for s store? Try Walgreens or CVS - both will be open 24 hours on the Christmas holiday. Many gas stations will also remain open. Merry Christmas from Patch!
