On Jan. 1 of every year, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions. Most of these resolutions are new diets, more exercise, or debt reduction. However, my New Year’s resolutions are different than most people; my New Year’s resolutions consist of things I need to do in my home.
Resolutions dedicated to your home can add much needed value and comfort in your lives. The possibilities are truly endless whether it’s painting, resurfacing, remodeling, carpeting, becoming more energy efficient, buying new furniture, etc. I chose two of my home resolutions to share to give an idea of what can be done.
My first New Year’s resolution is to renovate my kitchen. Since my house is in the New York City real estate market, I want to keep it modern. New York City real estate is expensive, and if I decide to sell my home, a nicely renovated kitchen could lead to a huge profit.
One of the first things I want to do with my renovated kitchen is update my appliances. Currently, most of my appliances are white; however, my dishwasher is a light brown. With my renovations, I plan to purchase all stainless steel appliances. Stainless steel will last much longer than my current appliances, and most new homeowners prefer to have stainless steel appliances.
The second renovation I plan to complete is adding ceramic tile to my floors. As of now, my floors have a vinyl tile sheet covering them. The ceramic tile will add more appeal to my floors, and it will last a lot longer than the vinyl tile sheet.
The final renovation I plan to complete is adding granite countertops to my kitchen. The granite countertops will match my stainless steel appliances and my ceramic tile flooring.
My second New Year’s resolution is making my home more energy efficient. In order to do this, I will have to purchase more energy efficient appliances. The stainless steel appliances that I purchase will all be energy efficient appliances; furthermore, I plan to add surge protectors to all of my outlets.
After I have added surge protectors to the outlets, I plan to purchase energy efficient light bulbs. By making my home more energy efficient, I will be able to save a lot of money on my electric bill and help preserve environment.
New Year’s resolutions are made by millions of people each year, and only a small percentage will keep the resolution. Considering my resolutions are so important and valued in my daily life, I don’t feel that I will find any trouble in staying true to my 2013 New Years resolution of making my home my comfortable to live in.
